Area Districts Receive Awards

Enterprise School District has received a top award from the Mississippi School Boards Association.

Thirty school districts statewide were honored with the 2012 MSBA Lighthouse School Leader Awards.

Enterprise School District was one of only three districts in the state to receive the Beacon Award, the highest given by the association.

It goes to school districts that achieved Star status on state accountability tests.

"We give thanks to the community and the school board because it takes everybody to educate those children," said superintendent, Rita Windham. "We give thanks to the parents. We appreciate everything they do. And we just hope we can continue to give that quality education."

Lauderdale County Schools, Newton County Schools, and Union Public Schools were also recognized with Lantern awards, the second-highest recognition. Those go to high-performing districts that have no schools below the Successful level.
