Area Residents Urged to Support Local Airline Service

Meridian, Miss. Local leaders say it is crucial for area residents to support airline service in Meridian once a new airline is found.

This past week, Silver Airways announced it plans to leave Meridian's airport and three other Mississippi airports in 90 days because of economic factors. Many of Silver's flights to and from Meridian have been delayed or canceled in recent months, which has been a turnoff for passengers. Good airline service is crucial in order to lure industry to our area.

"These are the kind of things that companies consider," EMBDC President Wade Jones says. "Workforce and logistics are the two major drivers. So, we have to make sure that not only can we transport their inbound and outbound logistics. Their products, their services, but we have to make sure that we can take care of their officers. That we can transport their personnel via air service."

Jones says the EMDBC is providing the Meridian Airport Authority with the market data it needs to secure an airline.
