Armed Robbery Victim Talks About the Ordeal

A Leake County woman says she was terrified as the victim of an armed robbery at an Edinburg store on Tuesday.

Leake County authorities are looking for the suspect in the armed robbery at the Lay's Best-Way convenience store
5 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers say the robber was armed with a single barrel shotgun.

Regina Thornton came to Meridian after the ordeal to stay with her son. She says she was a customer in the store when the man entered, robbing her and others in the store at gunpoint.

"When he first came through the door I was standing at the register, and he came straight toward me with the gun right in my face, demanded my money," Thornton says. "I threw down what I had in my hand but he said, 'No, old woman, I want it all!' Of course, I took whatever else was in my billfold out and threw it down."

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5' 10" and 170 pounds. At the time, his head and face were covered, and he was wearing a gray shirt, dark sweat pants and blue latex gloves.
