MPD Says Armed Robbery, Auto Burglaries Connected

Ashley A. Lewis, and Stantrez Grady, both only 16 years old, committed several felony crimes spanning two counties from Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, according to Meridian police. In the first, Captain Dean Harper says they used the Internet to rob a man at gunpoint in the city,

"Meridian Police believe Lewis lured the victim to the park where she had the two accomplices there waiting to rob the individual," said Capt. Dean Harper. "We are actively searching for the third suspect in that case."

Just hours later, a Meridian police officer noticed suspicious activity in the Briarwood area. After a pursuit into Kemper County, Lewis and Grady were apprehended through the cooperation of Meridian police, and Lauderdale and Kemper County sheriff's deputies. However, officers were also chasing other suspects on foot during the car pursuit.

"We do know there were two other individuals assisting these two individuals during those auto burglaries early Wednesday morning," Harper said.

Now that the two have been caught, Meridian police are reviewing a number of other armed robbery cases that occurred during the winter, when robberies were at their highest.

"We are examining the facts of this case," said Harper. "We are reaching out to some other victims in some other armed robberies that had a similar MO to see if those could have been committed by the same individuals."

Lewis and Grady remain in the Lauderdale County Detention Facility on $250,000 bond for armed robbery, and are also facing several other felony charges stemming from the two incidents. Meridian police are also searching for at least two other suspects.
