Barbour Visits Meridian to Voice Support for Cochran

Meridian, Mississippi Former Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour visited Meridian Friday to voice his support of Senator Thad Cochran in the Republican runoff election for Cochran's U.S. Senate seat.

Barbour came to urge people to get out and vote for Cochran in the runoff on Tuesday. He talked about the ways Cochran has helped East Mississippi during his long tenure in the Senate, such as the support of military bases during Base Realignment and Closure.

"Thad has worked with the delegation and everybody else to protect Meridian and Columbus, Camp Shelby, Keesler, but Meridian Naval Air Station, we know will be under attack and there's no stronger, better more effective ally than Thad," said Barbour.

Barbour says he believes Cochran has a greater chance to increase his turnout because voters are now more focused on the issues in the election, instead of the controversies.
