Batson Radiothon Off to a Great Start

Meridian, Miss. A radiothon to benefit Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital continues till 7 p.m. Friday, sponsored locally by The Radio People.

Day 1 was off to a good start. People stopped by the station to buy t-shirts and make donations.

This radiothon includes the stations operated by The Radio People which includes 97OKK, Q101 and Kiss 104, as well as several Jackson stations.

All of these stations working together makes for the largest radiothon in the state. Making a donation is as simple as picking up the phone.

Scott Stevens of The Radio People says, “It’s real simple; people can call in 1-888-681-5437, which spells out kids, because Blair Batson Hospital is all about the kids. They can come by our studio on Old Highway 45 North and make a cash donation. We've got our t-shirts in, which last year we sold out of so this year we got more. They are only $10. All of this money goes to the Batson Hospital."

All of the money raised goes towards buying new equipment, and to fill the needs of not only the kids, but the parents too. Former patients like John Clark Packer speak very highly of the children’s hospital and what it means to him.

"I have been a patient at the hospital. I was born in 1981 and transported over to the children’s hospital at the time and ended up spending the first 8 months of my life in the hospital. I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis,” Parker recounts. “It means the world to me. I probably wouldn't be standing here if it wasn't for them. My doctor who has been my CF doctor my whole life, she's like part of my family."

Batson is the only children’s hospital in the state, and no child is ever turned away.
