Meridian, Miss. A benefit scheduled for June 22 will benefit the Thomas Robinson family.
Robinson is a Lauderdale County sheriff's deputy who has been battling pancreatic cancer.
The benefit is actually a shooting competition that will take place at the range at Modern Outfitters on Highway 39 in Meridian. It's open to all ages and requires a $25 entry fee.
Robinson's friends came up with the idea as a way for others to help the family with expenses. A safety briefing will precede the competition.
"We're going to have three different divisions. We're going to have a law enforcement division for all of Thomas' friends and co-workers, as well as a recreational shooter for men of different skills levels, and then a female shooter division," said Eric Stubbs of Modern Outfitters. "But females are allowed to compete in any division in which they choose. We'll have trophies, prizes, that kind of things, to be given away for awards for the winners."
Anyone who would like to enter is asked to RSVP through Facebook. There's a link at the Modern Outfitters Facebook page.
The shoot starts at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22, and should conclude around 5 p.m.
