A music video is being shot in downtown Meridian.

Meridian native, Big K.R.I.T. (King Remembered in Time) has become pretty well known in the hip hop world in recent years. He has released several albums, and shot a number of music videos.

The crowd lining the street to watch steadily got bigger as the afternoon has worn on.

Big K.R.I.T., whose real name is Justin Scott, was busy but took some time out to say hi to fans as well.

Shirts worn by many of the production staff feature the state of Mississippi.

Big K.R.I.T. told Newscenter 11 he wanted to shoot his latest video in his hometown to make sure the nation knows about his roots.

"I'm just going to have fun and showcase being country and be proud of being country and just because you are country, doesn't mean you are not intelligent," said Big K.R.I.T. "And that's what I'm showcasing in my music. I want all my family to be in it and I want it to be shot in my city, and we're here."

"Meridian is hopping, excuse the pun," said Mayor Cheri Barry. "We're just so proud to have him back home and it's an honor to have him in our community. And he's been all over town today; it's wonderful for Meridian. We are truly an arts and entertainment community."

Fans said they are excited and inspired to have him here.

"It's a really big deal," said Kwajalwn Smith. "I love his music. I'm just excited to be here. It's just a very great experience."

"I feel that it really is a blessing that, you know, he blew up so big from this city," said Cameron Arnold. "And it really inspires me to, you know, want to chase my dream and become an R & B artist and a performer as well."

Work on the video is scheduled to continue well into the evening outside and inside the Temple Theater,

Big K.R.I.T. is a product of Meridian Public Schools. He signed his first record deal with Def Jam Records in 2010. He has had two of his songs make the top 25 on the rap charts.
