The body of a man who drowned on the Chunky River has been found.

Family members of 56-year old Marcus Lavan Smith tell Newscenter 11 that they found his body floating in the river around 10:00 Saturday morning, about half a mile from where Smith went under.

Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler says the body was pulled from the river around 12:15 p.m. and is being taken to Jackson for an autopsy.

LEMA director David Sharp and other rescue officials also responded to the scene. Crews spent nine days searching for Smith before calling off the search this past Monday.
