A local organization whose mission is to mentor young people is celebrating a huge milestone.
The executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of East Mississippi tells Newscenter 11 that the organization recently celebrated its 25th anniversary in the community. Director Ricky Hood says the Boys and Girls Club has had the chance to work with several community leaders, including Sheriff Billy Sollie and City Councilman Bobby Smith.
"It has grown tremendously from the standpoint of community awareness," Hood says. "Of who we are, what we do, and the difference that we make with young people. And the facilities and the support has always been tremendous. But, I don't know if we can do any better than we're doing right now with the community support that we have."
Hood says the support from city and county government, as well as local businesses, has been great.
