Bryant Says Federal Health Law Hurting Economy

Gov. Phil Bryant says the 2010 federal health care overhaul is slowing Mississippi's economy because business owners are confused about how much it will cost to meet demands of the law.

Bryant, a Republican, spoke Wednesday at Mississippi College during a conference about the Affordable Health Care Act, or Obamacare.

The governor repeated his opposition to expanding Medicaid, which the U.S. Supreme Court says is optional under the law.

State Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney is moving forward with one part of complying with the law. He's working to create a health care exchange where people can shop online for health insurance.

Last week, Chaney met one deadline by submitting documents to the federal government, showing minimum levels of coverage that would be available under the Mississippi exchange.
