Bryant Makes Plea for National Guard

Jackson, Miss.

Gov. Phil Bryant is asking President Obama to end furloughs for national guardsmen in the state.

Bryant sent a letter, along with Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, saying the furloughs come at a time when the states are vulnerable to hurricane season and other natural disasters.

The federal sequester led to one-day-a-week furloughs for 1400 civilian National Guard members in Mississippi.
