Meridian police got the call around midnight Friday night that two people had been shot in the 1800 block of 21st Court. When police arrived, they found two individuals with gunshot wounds. Before leaving for the hospital, the victims explained that they received those injuries from the individual who stole their truck.

"The officers were able to talk to the victim," Det. Dareall Thompson says. "The victim stated that a male subject had taken his vehicle. At that time, officers were given a description of the vehicle."

But the victims advised them that another man was still in the truck that was taken. So police immediately took off to find it, which they finally did an hour later in the 3400 block of 12th Street, where they also discovered the other individual dead inside.

"Once the officers located the vehicle, they found the black male that appeared to have been shot, deceased in the vehicle," he says.

The other two victims are still recovering from their gunshot wounds, but their injuries were deemed non-life threatening. Det. Thompson says they have been helpful in this investigation in providing a good description of their carjacker, which was an easy task considering the suspect was no stranger.

"Based on some information, they did know the subject," he says.

Det. Thompson says the MPD is working hard to use that information to find who is responsible in this homicide. But while they have some good leads, he says, they're still asking for the public's help in this search.

"If anybody has any information, please contact CrimeStoppers or contact 311," he says.

Police are not yet releasing the name of that individual who was found dead in the vehicle.
