Local children with special needs were treated to a night of fun and excitement on the ball field.
The Challenger League softball event runs for four weeks in late April and early May at the Sammie Davidson Complex in Meridian. Organizers say the event is open to children over three years of age and provides long-lasting memories.
"It just gives the kids an opportunity to participate in sports, like their siblings get to do, and they get to come out here and play with other children like them," said Patty Smith of the Parent Circle support group. "They are able to just come out here and have a lot of fun, and then their parents get to participate also."
Children from Lauderdale County and surrounding counties are eligible to participate.
