The people of Enterprise honored their police chief who died tragically Tuesday.

Chief Randy Boykin died after he was struck by a vehicle as he directed school traffic at Highway 513 and River Road.

His body was brought back Wednesday from Jackson where he was taken for treatment.

People lined the streets, including Enterprise students, to show their respect for Boykin.

School officials are trying to help students cope with emotional trauma. Many of them either witnessed the collision or the immediate aftermath. Officials said some are taking it hard.

"We have talked with the students," said superintendent Rita Windham. "We've offered counseling. Our high school counselor has counseled with several. And we actually called them all into the gym yesterday and we had a moment of silent prayer. The students and teachers loved him and respected him and he will be missed greatly."

Students gathered in the school gym Wednesday morning for a special meeting to talk about what happened.

Boykin had been the chief of police in Enterprise for a dozen years. He has also served as a part-time sheriff's deputy.

Visitation for Boykin will be Saturday, Mar. 23 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Enterprise High school gym. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m., also at the gym.
