Chili Cookoff More than a Fundraiser

Meridian, Miss. A 30-year tradition continued Saturday morning in Meridian.

Wesley United Methodist Church hosted its 30th annual chili cookoff. There were several entries, but after some close judging, the best three were chosen. The cook-off was started as a fundraiser for the church, but over the years, organizers say it has grown into so much more than just bringing together friends and family, and has become more of a reunion than a fundraiser.

"It’s a lot of fun," Pastor Pam Randall says. "I had a lady call me yesterday and said she wanted to come and participate because it's kind of a family reunion for her. So while it is a fundraiser, it is a time for the church to get together and recall old memories and fond times. We are just looking forward to it and the weather's turned out nice."

Newscenter 11's Louis Montesi judged the competition.
