Officials with Choctaw General Hospital say they are thrilled to open a facility that will greatly impact residents in Choctaw County in terms of healthcare.

Hospital administrator J.W. Cowan says the area has not had a hospital in 17 years now.

"That was one of the problems with Choctaw County," Cowan says. "It is so far to the nearest facility. Just here in Butler, we were 35 miles away from the nearest facility and now we have an emergency facility here."

The emergency facility has fully functioning emergency room, radiology and C.T. Scan departments, and a lab and rehab services. Inpatient and outpatient services are provided. Cowan says the hospital has already seen close to a 1,000 patients since opening on March 5th.
