The city of Meridian is participating in National Night Out this year.
National Night Out is designed to develop and promote crime prevention techniques, such as neighborhood watch groups.
2013 marks the 30th anniversary of the event nationwide.
Meridian's event will take place Oct. 8 at Dumont Plaza, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This event will also help start the See Something, Say Something campaign of the police department.
"We're going to be working on that national initiative and our local initiative," said Chief James Lee. "We want people to talk to us, and more importantly, we want to talk to you."
Children and adults will both have activities in which they can participate.
The police department will also be taking children's fingerprints as part of the child identification program.
