A group of students from T.J. Harris Elementary School was honored Tuesday for simply doing good deeds.
The school started the program 15 years ago as a way to reward students for doing something nice for other students, something nice for an adult or something that shows they love their school.
Each month, 20 students who are caught behaving well, are chosen by the school's guidance counselor to receive a prize pack and attend a pizza party as a reward for their good deeds.
"We've got a lot of our kids that go out of their way to help each other, to not laugh when someone has a problem, to help them instead," said guidance counselor, Ray Matheny. "Terrific Tigers is really good for that. It makes our school a more peaceable place; it makes our school a more pleasant place to learn."
The program is sponsored by the Meridian Civitan Club. It has been recognized by two state organizations as the outstanding elementary counseling program in Mississippi.
