Schools like East Mississippi Community College in Scooba will send students and faculty to Jackson Thursday for the annual Community College Capitol Day.

School officials say they'll be lobbying lawmakers to fund community colleges at mid-level per student between K-12 and universities. State law requires it, but it has never actually happened.

"We have our students from all 15 community colleges who go to the Capitol," said Dr. Andrea Mayfield, EMCC vice-president. "And we give speeches, we talk to the media, we talk to the legislators, and we talk about our need for increased funding."

Right now, community colleges are getting only about half of what the mid-level funding act promised.
