Community Encouraged to Recycle Electronics

By  |

Often times, people simply toss their old electronics in the trash when they replace them with new ones. But there's an alternative that's better for our environment.

Officials with Keep Meridian and Lauderdale County Beautiful teamed up with STS to collect electronics that can be recycled. Organizer Betty Lou Jones says we all need to do a better job of disposing of items that can be recycled.

"In our world today, we have too much garbage," Jones says. "But we also have this new problem of electronics and people don't know what to do with them and they don't know where to dispose of them. And one of the bad things is they end up in landfills and they take up a tremendous amount of space in our landfills."

Jones says if you couldn't drop your items off on Saturday, just give Meridian Mainstreet a call at 601-693-7480 and they will make arrangements to pick up your items.
