Washington, D.C. Mississippi’s congressional delegation Wednesday sent a letter to President Obama backing Gov. Phil Bryant’s request for an expedited federal disaster declaration in the wake of damage from tornadoes and storms across the state.
The letter was signed by U.S. senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker, and U.S. representatives Bennie Thompson, Gregg Harper, Alan Nunnelee and Steven Palazzo.
The delegation’s letter specifically supports the request for direct federal assistance for Itawamba, Lee, Lowndes, Madison, Rankin, Wayne and Winston counties, and hazard mitigation statewide.
Damage across the state is still being assessed from multiple tornadoes.
