Meridian, Miss. Meridian police continue to look for two suspects in Sunday night's armed robbery at the Exxon off South Frontage Road.
The holiday season is normally a time of giving, but for some its all about taking for themselves. Higher rates of crime occur around the holiday season, and the most recent target of crime is a gas station located just off the interstate. Around 9:20 p.m. last night, the Exxon off South Frontage Road was the victim of an armed robbery.
"The clerk stated that what she believed to be two masked females entered the store. One of them was armed with a hand gun, demanded money, and the clerk complied, and the suspects left on foot," said Captain Wade Johnson of the Meridian Police Department.
Right now, all police have to go on is a very vague description of the suspects as they were fleeing on foot.
"One of the females was described as being from 5'7" to 5'8" and weighing approximately 200 pounds, and the other was said to be about 5'5" weighing 180 pounds," said Captain Johnson.
Police have stepped up patrols for the holidays, but crime is still happening. Johnson tells us how increased patrols are better than what we had, and are the best route to take.
"Patrols in the past have been more reactive, so what we try to be is more proactive. Reactive is responding to areas that have already had issues, whereas proactive is aimed at prevention," said Captain Johnson.
Although they don't have any leads right now, Johnson says the investigation is ongoing.
