Copper, Materials Stolen from Church Building Site

Clarke County, Miss. Members of a Clarke County church discovered Monday morning, when the foundation was supposed to be laid, that thieves and vandals had struck their construction site.

Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church is building on County Road 353, about a mile off Highway 514.

The church made the discovery that copper piping was taken and other supplies stolen from the property in northwest Clarke County.

"People tend to try to support their habits or try to do anything," said Clarke County Sheriff Todd Kemp. "They don't care who they touch. You know, this is pretty bad when you've got a place of worship, and people trying to make the community better, and we've got individuals going around trying to steal from them."

Kemp says if you have any information about this crime, please call East Mississippi Crimestoppers at 855-485- 8477.
