Lauderdale County, Miss.
In observance of National Correctional Officers Week, local businesses stepped up to recognize employees of the Lauderdale County Jail.
The staff of about seventy employees, including civilian and medical staff, was treated to lunch.
Sheriff Billy Sollie says these essential members of the sheriff's department are never seen by the public but they perform the important task of running a safe and efficient jail.
"They rarely come in contact with the general public," said Sollie. "So we fell like this is an opportunity for us to say thank you and the community to step forward and also told them thank you."
The Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors issued a proclamation earlier this week to recognize the work of correctional officers.
