Jackson, Miss. A chain-reaction crash has shut down the icy four-lane Mississippi River bridge on Interstate 20 at Vicksburg. A tanker leaked a corrosive liquid into the river.
An 18-wheeler skidded on the ice and crashed into a railing at about 4 a.m. Wednesday. At least four other tractor-trailer rigs followed.
Louisiana State Trooper Albert Paxton says the tanker's chemical is very flammable. The liquid chemical is in making agricultural chemicals.
U.S. Coast Guard officials were assessing the impact of the spill and the Mississippi in the area was closed to traffic.
A private company, United States Environmental Services, was assessing and beginning to clean the spill Wednesday.
Both eastbound lanes had reopened as of 5 p.m. Wednesday. Both westbound lanes were expected to reopen at approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday.
