Meridian, Miss. The head of the company that provides CrimeReports.com to the city of Meridian is now offering the service free of charge.
Friday, Newscenter 11 reported the city will no longer provide information to the site for a number of reasons. The city's attorney says the reasons include the amount of false and misleading cases reported to the site. Also, because the information is reported in real time, which gives the criminal the upper hand.
However, CEO William Kilmer of Public Engines, says the city's claims are false and that the information is not in real time. Kilmer says the city controls which calls are posted on CrimeReports.com.
Kilmer contacted Newscenter 11 to say he plans to inform the city of Meridian of his offer this coming week.
