The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department says it made 14 DUI arrests this past weekend and more than 430 since January 1st.
Sheriff Billy Sollie says the sheriff's department's DUI unit, along with deputies, have been aggressive in patrolling county roads and that is the reason for the hundreds of DUI arrests.
"Law enforcement officers are driven by the fact that they are making the roads safer and not having to report to a family that someone's been killed due to someone choosing to drink and drive," Sheriff Sollie says.
Sollie says thankfully, there have been no fatal DUI accidents in Lauderdale County this year. Grant money will enable the sheriff's department to dispatch extra officers during the holiday season to crack down on drunk driving.
