Meridian, Miss. The 2015 Distinguished Young Women local programs have ended, but this year's contestants are already preparing for their next competitions.
The county winners for DYW's class of 2015 took part in their orientation Saturday at 15th Avenue Baptist Church. This is the first big meeting for the girls that gives them an opportunity to meet everyone involved and to learn a little bit more about what they can expect in the upcoming months.
"The whole preparation is probably the biggest part of the entire program," according to Peryn Reeves-Darby, Miss DYW 2014. "You spend hours practicing talent, looking over current events, doing mock interviews, getting the perfect dress, earrings, everything. This is kind of telling the girls you should start if you haven't already started and guiding them on what they need to be doing before state."
The preliminary competition will be hosted July 24th and 25th at the Temple Theater.
