A dance company spent time Thursday at Newton High School.
ClancyWorks of Silver Springs, Maryland, was able to bring an instructional class to Newton through a grant from the University of Southern Mississippi.
ClancyWorks has an educational outreach to grades K-12 with the belief that dance helps promote teamwork, self-esteem and creativity.
"It's important for them to be exposed to the arts and to be exposed to their own potential," said instructor Jessica Ellis. "Dance allows them to have their own freedom of expression and so it's important for them to have these opportunities, to be able to just be themselves in a classroom setting."
Ellis said she also taught two classes in Mobile Wednesday, but this was her first in Mississippi.
