A man who was critical in the life of a number of Meridian community service organizations has died.
Henry Daum died Monday in Wisconsin, where he had recently moved to live with his son. He was 95.
Daum was a longtime teacher at MSU Meridian who was very active in the community.
He helped found the Care Lodge, and was also active in organizations like Multi-County Community Service Agency, Wesley House and Mattie Hersey Hospital.
The Lauderdale County Mental Health Association previously established a scholarship in Daum's name. Daum was the founding professor of social work at MSU Meridian.
Daum served as emeritus professor of social work and coordinator of the social work program at MSU-Meridian from 1976 to 1990. He also served as director of the Mental Health Association of Lauderdale County for many years and was instrumental in establishing: The Friendship Center, Care Lodge Domestic Violence Shelter, The Peavey House (now known as Hope Village) as well as partnering with East Mississippi State Hospital to establish the EMSH Meridian Group Home.
