Deputies Still Seeking Information about Deadly Shooting

Lauderdale County, Miss. The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department says a deadly weekend shooting investigation led to the arrest of one man Wednesday afternoon. However, the man's charges ended up not being related to that deadly shooting.

Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun tells Newscenter 11 his deputies are working intently to make an arrest in connection to the fatal shooting of 27-year old Raphael Robert Taylor late Friday night. That shooting happened on Earl Haney Road, just off of Highway 19 South. Calhoun says the sheriff's department has received a number of calls and tips in this case.

"Many times, there are people who feel like they don't have anything," Calhoun explains. "They may know a little something, but think oh it's not that important. But it may be that small little piece of the puzzle that we're missing that links other things that we have already determined."

Calhoun does say investigators have already made progress in the investigation thanks to those tips. The Meridian Police Department is also assisting, which is especially helpful when authorities are trying to solve a murder.

"A crime like a murder is never forgotten," Calhoun stresses.

Calhoun tells us deputies are confident they will be able to make an arrest in connection to the shooting and prosecute the case to the fullest.

"At times when you work all the leads that you have and you just have to wait until you receive additional information," Calhoun adds. "But a serious crime like that, of course, is never forgotten and we will continue to work on this one."
