A member of the community who has gone the extra mile in support of the Boys and Girls Club was honored in Meridian.
Longtime board member Nancy Dowling was recognized at the club's annual meeting Wednesday for her dedication. She has been instrumental in raising over $1 million for the Boys and Girls Club.
Dowling was also the recipient of the Mississippi Volunteer of the Year award from the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
"A way of honoring a very, very special lady who has done so much for the Boys and Girls Club. And her heart is here," said board president Melida Patterson. "She has worked with the club for over ten years in many, many aspects and has gone above and beyond."
The mayor issued a proclamation making Dec. 12 "Nancy Dowling Day" in Meridian.
