Candi Dunlap was unexpectedly detained when attempting to leave Macedonia after a short-term medical missionary trip. Officials accused her of trying to smuggle coins out of the country.
The nurse practitioner from Meridian was locked in a jail cell and had to wait for her day in court.
"Still, we're thinking O.K., you give up your little souvenirs and pay a fine and go home," said Candi. "You're still not believing you are going to be taken to a prison that looks like a concentration camp."
Dunlap spent nearly a month behind bars in Macedonia.
Now the Meridian couple is trying to get back to a normal routine.
Newscenter 11 talks with Dunlap, and her husband, Marc, is a special series that starts Tuesday on Newscenter 11 and 5, 6, and 10. .
