Earth's Bounty has been named a Certified Farmers Market by the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce.

Earth's Bounty started in June featuring locally-grown produce and homemade agricultural products the first Saturday of the month.

Meridian Main Street had the idea to gain attention for the local farmers market and increase business for vendors. Turnout and enthusiasm for Earth's Bounty have been positive each month.

"That they are a true farmers market with farmers that are selling Mississippi-grown produce," said Paige Manning, marketing director with the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce. "So shoppers know when they go to a certified market that they are buying locally-grown produce from Mississippi farmers."

Manning said out of nearly 75 farmers markets in the state, only 27 are certified by the Department of Agriculture.

Earth's Bounty will be held again Oct. 6 and Nov. 3.
