Clarke County, Miss. A soldier from Clarke County, Army SPC Terry Gordon, is among those who died in a helicopter crash Tuesday in Afghanistan.
Gordon graduated from Quitman High School in 2011.
He and five others died when the helicopter went down in what was single deadliest day for U.S. troops in the country this year.
Many friends and family members are sharing their thoughts and memories on Facebook.
The Clarke County Tribune spoke to Gordon's mother Wednesday afternoon and reports the team was performing a covert operation when the deadly crash happened.
Two U.S. officials told CNN the Pentagon is looking into whether the troops came under enemy fire after surviving the crash of the Black Hawk UH-60 or died in the crash itself.
Stars and Stripes, quoting a U.S. defense official, reported there was one survivor.
Gordon's aunt told Newscenter 11 by phone that the
family would not be making any statements to media about what happened.
Gordon is the fourth soldier from east Mississippi to die in Afghanistan or Iraq since 2007. In all, eleven have died from this area since the War on Terror began in 2001.
