Edwards Prepares for State Pageant

Miss West Central Alabama 2013 is busy preparing for the Miss Alabama Pageant later this year.

KeLeigh Edwards won the pageant held in Livingston in January.

Edwards, from Smith Station, is currently a junior at Troy University where she is majoring in elementary education.

For the Miss Alabama Pageant and the preliminaries, Edwards' talent is singing. Her platform is volunteerism and giving the gift of time.

"When I was 12, I went to Mexico to work in an orphanage," said Edwards. "And until that time, I had never been exposed to poverty, or just people who had nothing. And from that time I just realized that giving of myself and being there and being available and ready to give the gifts and talents the Lord has given me, really made such a difference in the lives of others."

The Miss Alabama Pageant will be held June5-8 at Samford University in Birmingham.
