Employment Agencies Report Upswing in Job Offerings

Meridian, Miss. According to officials from three of the top staffing agencies in Meridian, there is a significant increase in the number of available jobs.

"Compared to last year, we're getting more openings on a daily basis," said Angela Wash of Ambassador Staffing in Meridian. "We are way busier than we were last year. So, yes."

Wash and officials from other agencies told Newscenter 11 that many of the positions that are available at this time are industrial.

"Also for accounts payable positions, they're wanting you to have certain skills and degrees for that," said Wash. "And when it comes to industrial, they're wanting you to have three to six months of industrial experience working in a warehouse. They also have maintenance positions that are available at this time."

Ambassador Staffing says some companies that did not hire for vacant positions when the recession hit are now starting to fill those slots.

One company that is looking to hire quickly is Lowe's, which has scheduled a Career Open House for Thursday.

'We are looking to hire," said Lowe's assistant manager, Joseph Norwood. "Currently, we employ 180 employees. We're looking to hire 25 more for the spring season."

Norwood says that those openings are for positions throughout the store. In fact, on-site interviews will be provided to individuals who attend the open house at the store Mar. 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Officials at Lowe's stress that the many of the seasonal positions could turn into long-term employment for those who are chosen. Job seekers who can are encouraged to apply online prior to the fair. Click the attached link to visit the Lowe's website.
