Posted: Wed 5:27 PM, Jan 09, 2013

One of the final cases to be heard in Meridian's historic federal courthouse is now underway.

A Wayne County man is on trial for allegedly defrauding FEMA after Hurricane Katrina.

Judd Johnston was an inspector charged with signing off on loads of debris removed from county property. The indictment says he was paid to sign fraudulent documents claiming debris came from county property. Observers say the trial could last several weeks.

The federal courthouse in Meridian is set to close later this year.
