Members of the Future Farmers of America participated in the East Central Federation Contest Thursday afternoon.
Students from five high schools in our area took part in the competition, including West Lauderdale, Clarkdale, Newton County, Neshoba Central and Leake Central.
They competed in speaking contests, such as reciting the FFA creed and skill contests that include tool identification and tractor driving.
The students have been practicing for months in skills that will help them not only now, but in the future.
"It's helping them preparing for future jobs, and plus, it looks really good on a resume for scholarships and stuff," said Kayla Walters, FFA state president. "Even if they don't do so well here at federation, they still gained that experience."
Students who placed first or second will advance to the Central District Competition in Carthage Saturday.
