A family suffered severe burns after a devastating house fire Friday morning in Meridian.

The fire was discovered about 9:30 a.m. at the Campground RV Park on Old Highway 45 North in Meridian.

Fire Chief Anthony Clayton said two adults and two young children suffered burns and were all airlifted to a burn center.

"It's just a bad day for these folks," said Clayton. "I really can't say a whole lot as to what caused the fire because I don't want to compromise the investigation. It's ongoing."

Chief Clayton says the state fire marshal's office has been called in to investigate.

Editor's note: Meridian officials released the names of two people who later died from their injuries Nov. 4. They are 27-year-old Ashley Nicole Rutledge and her 3-year-old daughter, Shaila Mackenzie Rutledge.
