Farm Accident Claims Teen's Life

Authorities say 13-year-old Ben Hammond was killed late Tuesday afternoon in a farm accident in Lauderdale County.

It happened about 3:30 p.m. off Linton Road in the southeastern part of the county. Hammond was helping his grandfather attach a front-loader to a tractor when the implement fell on him.

Lauderdale County sheriff's officials and other first responders rushed to the scene.

"There's no suspicion at this time of of foul play of any kind," said Calhoun. "It's certainly a terrible thing for that family and community, and our thoughts and prayers go out to them."

Hammond was a student at Southeast Lauderdale.
