Meridian, Miss. Meridian fire officials are investigating a house fire that happened early Wednesday morning.
The fire at 605 55th Avenue was fully involved when firefighters arrived and crews went into a defensive attack to keep the fire from spreading.
Training director, Tim Stuart, says no one was inside because the previous residents had moved out just a few days ago. A house on the north side of the structure also sustained some minor damage.
Although officials don't know exactly what caused this fire, Fire Marshal Jason Collier says there has been an increase of a certain kind of fire in the city.
"We have had several more fires that are intentionally caused," said Collier. "We've had several abandoned houses that have been burned lately."
Fire officials say residents should make sure smoke detectors are working because fires can happen any time of the year.
