Meridian, Mississippi Family and friends of Meridian attorney and former judge Henry Palmer are mourning his death.
Palmer died Wednesday night in Jackson at University of Mississippi Medical Center. Coroner Clayton Cobler says Palmer suffered an aortic aneurysm. Civil rights activist Roscoe Jones reflected about meeting Palmer when Meridian Junior College integrated. One year after integration, Palmer and his friends invited Jones to play on their intramural sports teams. Jones says Palmer was a great friend.
"I will miss his friendship, but I will always respect the fact that he respected me as an individual and that's what friends are all about: Respecting each other," said Jones.
Jones also worked with Palmer on the Civil Service Commission when he became Board Attorney. Palmer had been serving in that role since then. He was also working as the attorney for the Lauderdale County Tourism Board.
Here are the arrangements set for Henry Palmer. Visitation will be Friday from five to seven p.m. at the Robert Barham Family Funeral Home on Highway 39 North in Meridian. Funeral services will be Saturday at two p.m. at Highland Baptist Church in Meridian, with burial following at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
