The East Mississippi Business Development Corporation announced a new chairman Tuesday at its 16th Annual Meeting.
The new chairman, C.D. Smith, the regional manager for AT&T, took over from outgoing chairperson, Ann Alexander of A & B Electric.
"It's very important to pass it on to someone who is very qualified and to stand up for this community and move us forward," said Alexander.
''So we are going to move forward and do the things we know how to do to position this community for the opportunities that are ours to come," said new chairman Smith.
Small business represents 96% of all employers in Mississippi and employs almost half of the private sector workforce.
