Bryant Announces New Jobs Coming to Meridian

Meridian, Miss. Eighty-three new jobs are coming to Meridian as part of a large expansion by Tower International.

This expansion represents a $15 million investment. It also coincides with a Nissan plant expansion in Canton.

Tower will continue with its current contracts but will also be adding new contracts from that Nissan plant.

Gov. Phil Bryant says, "Tower Automotive, Tower International here has been a mainstay of the southern automobile manufacturing corridor since about 2006 and this is another expansion. If you look at the growth here, they started out with about 70 employees, now more than two hundred and another eighty-three added today with the expansion. This is a major opportunity for Mississippi to continue to expand in the automobile industry."

This expansion will be added on to Tower's existing 410,000 square foot facility.

Tower International said the reason for such a lofty investment is because of the great workforce they have here in Meridian.

Jim Bernard with Tower International says, "Well it has been great. Actually the workforce here has been fantastic and we've already expanded our workforce over the past couple of years. We have up to 250 people right now. For the general area here, obviously, extra employment means 80 new families coming in and so we're looking forward to another great workforce."

With the Nissan expansion and the Tower expansion, it will bring nearly 600 new jobs to Mississippi.
