Pearl, Miss. Gov. Phil Bryant has issued a state of emergency as severe weather approaches Mississippi.

Bryant's declaration Sunday says there's a possibility of significant ice accumulation in the northern half of the state and severe thunderstorms or tornadoes in central and southern portions as a strong cold front pushes across Mississippi through Monday morning.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has partially activated the State Emergency Operations Center for key agencies including MEMA and the departments of public safety, transportation, health and human services.

The National Weather Service forecasts northwest Mississippi and the Delta area could see up to three quarters of an inch of ice, while other areas could see a tenth to a quarter inch of ice accumulation.

Such accumulations could create hazardous driving conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses.
