Meridian, Miss. Leaders and dignitaries from around the state of Mississippi were on hand Sunday for a special celebration at a local church.
House Speaker Philip Gunn presented a proclamation to First Baptist Church in Meridian on behalf of the state of Mississippi. This is in honor of the church's 175th anniversary this weekend. Gunn says the hard work and accomplishments of first baptist church should not go unnoticed.
"I will tell you that in my years as speaker, I can only recall one other church that we've done this for that has achieved the 175 year mark," Gunn told the congregation. "This is only the second one I recall, so truly something to celebrate. I commend you, I congratulate you. This is signed on behalf of the Lt. Governor, the Speaker Pro Tem, and myself."
Congressman Gregg Harper was also on hand, as well as Speaker Pro Tem Greg Snowden, who is a member of First Baptist.
