Meridian, Miss. Sport Clips and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars have teamed up to help veterans.

Money is being raised to help active duty men and women be able to call loved ones while they are deployed. So far, organizers have raised nearly $200,000 nationwide.

Here locally, the head of the VFW post in Meridian put her hair on the chopping block, along with CAO Curt Goldacker, in an attempt to raise money.

"So far today, we have raised $1153.83 for our VFW team," according to Natalie Copeland with VFW Post 12124. "Some of the gentlemen have already signed up to get their hair cuts, and for those who haven't seen my Facebook, I reached my goal of $500 and will be getting the GI Jane haircut here shortly."

Goldacker was not in town to get his haircut on Saturday, but will do so on Monday.
