Hammon, Harris Share Visions for Ward Five

Meridian, Mississippi This weekend, Newscenter 11 is speaking with the last of the candidates running for Meridian City Council.

John C. Harris and Randy Hammon will join our John Johnson on this weekend's "On the Record." Harris is running as a Democrat and has served on the council before, while Hammon is running as a Republican and defeated Bobby Smith in the primary election a few weeks ago. We asked each candidate how they plan to change Ward Five.

"The ordinances and codes haven't been changed in thirty to forty years," Hammon said. "They were supposedly amended back in 1995 or 1997, but the wording just changed and they actually didn't update them. So our codes are way behind a lot of other cities. I don't know why that hasn't been done, but that has to be done."

"I think you will see a plan where people will be empowered to work together," Harris said. "Churches and community leaders and city officials. I think that you will not just see individuals running rough-shot so to speak."

The entire interview will be broadcast Sunday evening at 5:30 on WTOK-TV.
